About me

Hi, I’m Matt Wilkinson – a classically trained guitarist with a passion for all things six-string.

I began my studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in 2006, and was extremely lucky to study with Gordon Crosskey and Craig Ogden. After graduating with First Class Honours in 2010, I was honoured to perform for Julian Bream and receive a Postgraduate Performance Award from the Musicians Benevolent Fund, allowing me to continue my studies at Master’s level.

Since then, I’ve built a reputation as a versatile and reliable guitarist, equally at home with classical recitals, rock gigs, theatre pits, and studio sessions. As a classical performer, I’ve given recitals across the UK, featured in the Rising Stars concert at the Bridgewater Hall, and led the National Youth Guitar Ensemble. I’ve also performed in masterclasses with leading guitarists including Julian Byzantine, Mark Eden, and Ricardo Iznaola, and was a top prize winner in the National Lions Music Competition.

Beyond classical guitar, I’m an experienced electric and acoustic player with extensive work in wedding bands, big bands, orchestras, and musical theatre productions across Hull, York, Manchester, and the Midlands. I've performed several shows with orchestra for Love Actually Live, and regularly play with a number of local covers bands.

I also perform alongside Jonny Greenwood as part of a Spanish guitar duo and a rock trio – projects that blend musical sensitivity with dynamic ensemble playing.

Whether it’s a concert hall, a wedding, a studio session, or a theatre performance, I bring the same focus, warmth, and musicality to every event.
